MST designed and fabricated an indirect heating system and gasket cooling skid for the Enriched Uranium Electro-Refining Project at Y-12 National Security Complex. The system included an NFPA 86 Class C compliant salt bath heater and a water-cooling skid for glovebox interface and protection. Three units were delivered under an ASME NQA-1 compliant quality program. The system interfaces with an electro-refining glovebox and protects against temperatures up to 600°C (1100°F), supporting safety-related operations within a Category 2 nuclear facility.

MST is noted for the design, testing, and fabrication of microwave melting and casting furnaces. MST was awarded a contract to design a full-scale prototype enriched uranium microwave melting and casting furnace, which in production would be used as the heart of Y-12’s $6.5B Uranium Processing Facility. The design required integration with an argon purged glovebox. The system is capable of melting multiple kilogram quantities of enriched uranium then casting uranium weapons components. It was commissioned in a high-bay facility in 2018 and continues to demonstrate its capabilities in yielding heretofore not achieved low-contaminate uranium castings for machining.
